3 Things You Should Know About the Singapore Stock Market Today

Hello, everyone. Here are three things about the local stock market that you might be interested in today.

1. The Straits Times Index (SGX: ^STI) tumbled 15.3 points, or 0.5%, to end the day at 3,077.97. Of the 30 index components, 23 were in the red; two were flat while five finished in the green.

The stock that fell the most among the index components was SATS Ltd (SGX: S58), coming down 4.5% to S$4.88. Meanwhile, the biggest gainer of the 30-stock index was Genting Singapore Ltd (SGX: G13), rising 6.7% to S$0.95.

3. Today, Singapore Exchange Limited (SGX: S68) reported its market statistics for October 2018. Here are some of the key highlights:

a) Total securities market turnover value was S$24.3 billion, up 1% year-on-year. There were 23 trading days in October this year and 21 in October 2017.

b) Securities daily average value was S$1.06 billion, falling 7% year-on-year.

c) Market turnover value of exchange-traded funds (ETFs) was S$245 million, up 51% year-on-year.

d) Market turnover value of structured warrants and daily leveraged certificates (DLCs) stood at S$1.82 billion, an increase of 11% compared to a year ago.

e) Total derivatives volume was 22.0 million, up 47% year-on-year, hitting a record high.

f) Equity index futures volume stood at 17.79 million, surging 58% year-on-year.

g) Total FX futures volume was 1.66 million, climbing 60% year-on-year.

h) SGX commodities derivatives volume was 1.47 million, up 13% compared to October 2017.

Singapore Exchange shares ended Friday at S$7.19 apiece, down 1.0% for the day.
