Happy New Year!

It’s funny how, at this time of the year, many of us will focus on the negatives. We for instance, will make resolutions to give up smoking, lose weight, drink fewer sugary beverages, start a gym membership or eat less junk food.

There’s nothing wrong with that. But that would assume that we have been less than good during the year. Actually, many of us have been better than good. So let’s resolve to focus on the positives instead of harping on the negatives.

Let’s resolve to invest more money into shares this year. The stock market could have some great moment in 2018. It could have some rocky moments too. But we should ignore the gyrations of the market. Instead carry on investing regardless. Every dollar that we put away now should be worth more in five to ten years’ time.

Let’s resolve to learn more about the companies that we are invested in. Remember, we are part owners of the businesses that we have shares in. We should be so familiar with the companies that we should be able to second-guess the actions of the managers of the businesses before them.

Let’s resolve reinvest more of those dividends we receive. If a company provides an automatic dividend-reinvestment plan, then sign up for it. We should not underestimate the power of compounding. It can be one of the best ways to grow our pot of money, effortlessly.

Let’s resolve to look further afield for investing opportunities. There are around 630,000 publicly-traded companies in the world. Some of those are listed on the 10 stock exchanges in Southeast Asia. Some are quoted on the five exchanges in East Asia. We have barely scratched the surface at our Singapore Stock Advisor service.

Here at the Motley Fool Singapore we resolve to serve you even better in 2018. Our two share-recommendation services are already beating the market. But we are not about to rest on our laurels. We resolve to trounce the market. We hope you can be a part of it, when we do.

All the best for 2018 from me and the Motley Fool Singapore team.
