Singapore Post Limited’s Annual Report: 21 Key Numbers Investors Should Know

Singapore Post Limited  (SGX: S08) was listed in 2003, some 14 years ago.

The logistics provider has three main business segments: Postal, Logistics, and eCommerce. Singapore Post’s annual report for its fiscal year ended 31 March 2016 (FY15/16) had a lot more information on its business. Here are 21 figures that could help investors better understand the company:

  1. Singapore Post has a history that stretches back over 150 years. Today, the logistics provider has a global workforce of 7,000 employees. Singapore Post also has over 50 fulfillment centres operating in 19 markets. The company’s eCommerce logistics network supports over $5 billion in annual gross merchandise value.
  2. Singapore Post achieved over $1 billion in revenue for FY15/16. From this figure, about 56% came from local sources while 44% came from foreign shores. Around 36% of the company’s revenue is considered to be eCommerce-related.
  3. In terms of the revenue split from the company’s business segments, Postal took up 40.5% of Singapore Post’s total sales in FY15/16, while logistics accounted for 48%. eCommerce is the smallest with 11.5% of revenue. In terms of operating profit, Postal’s contribution was 52% while logistics accounted for 13.2%. eCommerce only contributed to 0.8% of operating profit.
  4. In FY15/16, Singapore Post increased its fleet of three-wheeled scooters to 230 for postal delivery. The logistics operator also upgraded 29 of its 58 post offices to integrate essential services with digital access and provide 24/7 services such as parcel collection and bill payments.
  5. Some updates on the Logistics segment. At the end of FY15/16, Singapore Post had around 140 POPstations islandwide. The firm also invested $182 million into the SingPost Regional eCommerce Logistics Hub. The company believes that the hub will be the first eCommerce logistics facility in Southeast Asia to be equipped with cutting edge technology.
  6. Over at the eCommerce segment, Singapore Post currently provides eCommerce solutions to over 100 leading brands. Singapore Post’s eCommerce network also processed 4.6 million packages in cross-border eCommerce volumes in November 2015, the month with Cyber Monday and Black Friday.
