3 Things You Need To Know About the Singapore Share Market Today

Welcome to the middle of Friday! Here are three things you might want to look at today (and over the weekend) for Singapore’s share market.

1. The Straits Times Index (SGX: ^STI) is down by 0.6% to 3,327 points as of the time of writing (11:47am, 5 September 2014). Within the blue-chips, Singapore Telecommunications Limited (SGX: Z74) is one of the culprits dragging the STI lower as it has dipped by close to 1%.

2. Speaking of SingTel, the telecommunications giant is led by its Chief Executive Officer, Ms Chua Sock Koong, who’s also the an Executive and Non-Independent Director of the company. That’s a great thing for the telco as companies with a larger percentage of women on its board of directors tend to perform better than peers with a smaller percentage.

They are definitely not the only ones around here in Singapore, but The Straits Trading Company Limited (SGX: S20) and Auric Pacific Group Limited (SGX: A23) join SingTel in having the distinction of having a women business leader.

3. And sticking with the blue chips. Do you know that Golden Agri-Resources Ltd (SGX: E5H) is near its 52-week low currently? My colleague Stanley Lim explores the situation further here.
