The Singapore Market this Week

StockMarketBoardThe local stock market barometer, the Straits Times Index (SGX: ^STI), closed at 3,252 points for the week, down 0.4 point from last week.

One of the largest gainers in the index was Thai Beverage (SGX: Y92). It rose 4.3%, ending the week at $0.61. The beverage firm will release its first quarter results on 14 May 2014. On the other hand, Golden Agri-Resources (SGSGX: E5H), was one of the components that lost the most ground. It slumped 4.1% to close at $0.59. It will make public its first quarter results on the same day as Thai Beverage.

Out of the blue-chip universe, Raffles Medical Group (SGX: R01) slid 4.1% for the week as well, closing at $3.50. End of last month, the firm said that first quarter earnings was up 8% year-on-year.

Food and beverage group, BreadTalk (SGX: 5DA), closed at $1.45, increasing 2.8% for the week. On Thursday, it posted an 11.6% rise in first quarter net profit to S$1.8 million. Revenue jumped 16.7% to $140.4 million, on the back of strong performance in all of its three core business segments – Food Atria, Bakeries and Restaurants.

The STI is currently valued at a historical PE ratio of 13.9.
